Do you love water sports as much as us? Obviously it has started getting much colder now we are entering the end of the year, luckily there is still ways you can get out and enjoy the water you love.

Whether you’re kayaking, canoeing, paddle boarding, ice fishing or even swimming, make sure you think about these things before you leave your house.

Keep updated on the weather forecast

Find a good weather app with a radar to ensure the weather before/while you are out on the water is suitable. Once you are out in the water, keep an eye on the clouds and if you see anything that looks sketchy, it is time to head back home regardless of what the weather app predicted.

Think about clothing

During the colder months it is obviously much easier to get cold while futon the water so you want to layer up. Whatever sport you’re doing, you will want to make sure your clothes are customised for your sport and won’t restrict you in any way. For example, if you are paddle boarding, make sure your gloves don’t prohibit it. Or if you need to be able to see in the snow, goggles are a better idea than glasses. All of these things can make a big difference when you are on the water in the winter.

Pack to survive

Even though you aren’t planning on anything bad happening, this doesn’t mean that it won’t. You will want to make sure you have enough extra layers and you could also pack a survival bag incase anything does go wrong. Packing a survival blanket, lighter, some food, clean water, a first aid kit, a pocket knife and one of our popular waterproof bags for the ultimate protection.
