Traditional camping can seem like an environmentally friendly way of going away as it is, but there are in fact so many things you can be doing to make your break even ‘greener’ which we have covered in this blog.

Shopping for your Camping Trip

When you’re doing your grocery shop before your trip, it’s important to be mindful of the products you’re buying and how they can impact the environment.

It’s easy to not think about this at all and buy your usual vegetables or meat, but the packaging of these products can be very plastic-heavy and are often non-recyclable.

The same goes for your crockery – it’s easy and in fact convenient to buy those paper cups and plates, but it’s much better for the environment to buy crockery that you can wash and use again.

You may be thinking, “but paper plates are recyclable” – it’s true that most of them are, but you’ll find that reusable items cost less in the long-run and do less damage to the environment than buying new ones each time you go camping, head to the beach, and so on.

When you head down to the shops, remember to take your own reusable bags, so you’re not taking those non-degradable plastic bags with you too.

Leave Electronics at Home

This might seem like a given, and for many families, leaving electronics behind is one of the top golden rules when it comes to camping, but as time has gone on and camping is becoming more and more distant from its traditional ways, it’s easier for people to take some of their valued home items with you than you might think.

Go for a swim, head on an adventure, and just enjoy the outdoors! That’s what camping’s all about, right?

If you’re taking mobile phones with you, did you know you can buy solar chargers to avoid using an electric hook-up?

Buy Used Camping Equipment or Rent

If you’re a camping junkie, buying second-hand equipment is much more cost-effective and greener than buying new.

For those of you who are just getting into camping, renting your tent and any other equipment is going to be much better for the environment than buying new and then potentially getting rid of it or leaving it unused for a while.

You can even get eco-friendly sleeping bags!

Non-Toxic Sun Cream or Sprays

Camping in the Summer calls for lots of sun cream and bug spray, but a lot of these products, particularly bug repellent, contain toxins and chemicals that are not only harmful to your body, but also to the environment.

It’s important to do your research to understand the best and safest products to buy, or alternatively, you can make your own with this recipe.

If you’ve planned your camping trip for the Summer, we hope this blog has given you the information and tips you need to be more eco-friendly.
