Where is Boardmasters Festival?
Every year, the Boardmasters Festival has been held across Fistral Beach and Watergate Bay in Newquay, Cornwall. These are arguably two of the best seaside and surfing locations in the country and home to Cornwall’s surf community.
The Boardmasters Open 2022 will see some of the world’s greatest surf professionals compete and you can watch the array of comps at Fistral Beach.
The music side of the festival will take place at Watergate Bay, making a return with some of the biggest and most current music artists. You can view the line-up, here.
When is it?
Boardmasters will take place from 10th-14th August 2022. It’s an annual festival, so expect to hear about future events from the festival every summer.
What Surfing Competitions can you watch?
There are various surf competitions that take place across the duration of the festival which we’ve listed below:
- Animal Pro (Women’s & Men’s)
- BFGoodrich Longboard Pro (Women’s & Men’s)
- Havaianas Junior OPEN (U18s)
- The Mystic Junior OPEN (U18 Girls & Boys)
The Boardmasters OPEN competitions involve some of the UK’s best surfers as the World Surf League (WSL) bring some of the best pro surfers of all ages each year.
History of Boardmasters
Boardmasters has been around since 1981 and has remained home to some of the UK’s biggest surf competitions ever!
If you know your surf legends, you’ll know the name, Kelly Slater! He’s 11 times World Champion and has competed in some of the Boardmasters surf comps over numerous years.
From other names like Cheyne Horan and Wayne ‘Rabbit’ Bartholomew who tied their win in the first-ever run of the festival in 1981, to Tom Carroll and Layne Beachley, it’s an event you won’t want to miss!
