Wetsuits can experience the odd wear and tear over time, especially if surfing is a regular hobby of yours, but we’re here to help you prevent this.

Depending on your purchase, wetsuits can be pretty pricey, so let’s make yours last as long as possible so you can carry on enjoying the perfect surf!

Buying or Trying on Your Wetsuit

So, you’re in your local surf shop and you think you’ve found the wetsuit for you, you’ve just got to try it on to check it fits.

This may seem like an easy task but it’s important that you try this on with care to prevent damaging the material.

Whilst wetsuits are made to feel snug, don’t tug too hard on the material; this can cause the material to fray and split over time, jeopardising its waterproof and thermal properties.

Be careful of piercing holes in the materials with your nails too – this is done much easier than you might think!

A Quick Reminder of How Your Suit Should Fit…

Your wetsuit should be tight and have no slacking around the neck, wrists and ankles in order to efficiently prevent lots of water from entering the wetsuit.

On the other hand, you don’t want it to be so tight that it restricts your movement – you should be able to paddle and move freely in your wetsuit.

Washing and Drying

After use, rinse your wetsuit with cool water each time you use it. Hot water can damage the material and, in time, ruins its flexibility.

Leave your wetsuit outside to dry if possible, and leave it to air inside out to start with. We wouldn’t recommend leaving it in the direct sunlight as this can also affect the material and cause fading.

Storing for Next Time

Believe it or not, there is an art to folding your wetsuit for easy storage.

Grab each arm of the suit and fold them inwards to the chest, like you would an ordinary long-sleeved top.

Roll it from the legs upwards to roll it into a compact shape for storage.
