North Devon and Cornwall are home to some of the top surfing locations in the UK. Whether you’ve been surfing for years now or are just starting out, here are some of the top spots you should definitely check out!

Woolacombe Bay

Woolacombe beach couldn’t be more perfect for beginners all the way through to the more advanced surfers.

This beautiful beach is located in North Devon, surrounded by plenty of holiday parks, so you can enjoy the tide and the general area with the whole family.

If you’re a beginner, there’s plenty of surf schools in the area too to help you get off on the right foot (or wave!).

There are also plenty more surrounding beaches in the area, so you can find out which spot is your new favourite.

Fistral Beach

In the heart of Newquay in Cornwall, Fistral beach can hold swells of up to 8ft!

Perhaps one of the most popular beaches in Cornwall and even the UK, this hot spot is swamped with holidaymakers in the Summer but that shouldn’t put you off the amazing surf it provides all year round.

Fistral Beach’s very own surf school even offers lessons for all abilities, ages and families, so you can get off to a good start in this sport.

Perranporth Beach

This beach is pretty big, so you’re bound to find some good surf at some point during your visit, no matter when you attend.

Towards the Penhale end is where there tend to be the biggest and best waves, so if you’re more of an experienced surfer, this may be the place for you.

Whilst this is one of our favourite spots, it can be quite difficult to get to, so make sure you have a sat-nav with you if it’s your first time visiting.

You can visit Perranporth’s surf forecast, here.

Croyde Bay

For many, Croyde beach has been voted the best surfing spot in the UK!

This is a small bay along the North Devon coast, but the waves here never fail to disappoint.

The waves tend to be pretty pleasing on all tides, especially low tides and the waves are incredibly fast, so this is one we’d recommend for the more experienced surfers.

Here is the latest surf report for Croyde Bay.

Putsborough

Relatively close to Woolacombe, this Devonshire beach is a prime surfing spot, especially outside of Summer where the beach is less busy and the waves are generally much bigger.

This is one of our top picks for novices and advanced surfers, just be mindful of when you choose to visit if you’re planning a quiet trip.

It’s even been seen as one of the safest beaches in North Devon!

You can check out the surf report for Putsborough here.
