Go Cold Water Swimming

The beach isn’t just for summer you know! Heading to the beach at this time of year is much quieter and more therapeutic, and cold-water swimming comes with its very own health benefits, like reduced stress and improvements to your immune system.

We’ve written a whole article about it here if you want to read more about the benefits.

Visit a Wildlife or Deer Park

Down here in Devon, we’re fortunate enough to be surrounded by the beautiful Dartmoor and plenty of wildlife reserves.

Wildwood Escot in Otter St. Mary is practically a mini zoo with wolves, bears and more.

The Deer Tour at Bovey Castle will take you up close to the local deer on the estate, with a tour of their nutrition and lifecycle.

Find a New Camping Spot

Is there really anything better on a cold Autumn evening than wrapping up warm around a fire and toasting marshmallows? We didn’t think so – add this to your bucket list for the next few months.

Here are some of our top picks for camping in the UK.

If you’re local to Devon or fancy holidaying down here, VisitDevon has also put together a list of recommendations.

Camping is also the perfect occasion to go stargazing too. No need for a fancy telescope. There are plenty of apps for your phone like Star Walk or Google Sky that will tell you which stars are in the sky near you.

Go Pumpkin Picking and Carving

Visit your local pumpkin patch – there are usually lots of family activities, food stalls and more too.

Here’s a local guide to pumpkin farms in Devon.

Halloween is only a month away, so this is the perfect Autumn day out and Pinterest has plenty of pumpkin carving ideas to get you inspired.

Have an Autumn Picnic

Hot tomato soup and crusty bread, a flask of tea = the perfect Autumn picnic. Do you have a favourite picnic spot?

If not, there are plenty of picnic spots with one hell of a view on Dartmoor that you can check out, here. The perfect spots for a family dog walk too!

Visit a Farmer’s Market

There are plenty of Farmer’s Markets in Devon and Cornwall but across the whole of the UK too and what better way to spend the start of Autumn than a day out here?

With every 70 stalls to browse, South Molton’s Pannier Market is full of local livestock, arts and crafts and delicious food.

There’s also a Saturday market in Topsham each week which has food, gifts, clothes and even homeware. There’s also a café in Matthews Hall and a fish van.

Tiverton’s Pannier Market has live music and other local amenities to enjoy too. You can find a list of their traders, here.

We hope we have given you plenty of new ideas to try either alone or with the family this Autumn.
