Neoprene is the primary material used to make wetsuits – did you know it’s recyclable?

However, be warned not every recycling centre will take neoprene products, so listen up for our guide to disposing of your wetsuit without damaging the environment!

Recycle

A lot of recycling facilities will take neoprene rubber as they can mix it with other synthetic rubbers to create new products.

Creating rubber this way is cheaper and also much better for the environment than generating rubber naturally.

However, as we said, there are some recycling locations that won’t accept rubber wetsuits, so try and check with your local facility beforehand if you can.

Trade-in your Wetsuit

There are various organisations like Resurf that offer free trade-ins of your used wetsuits. There are also various companies that will reward you for your trade-in too, if you’re looking to get something back – a lot of major surf shops offer this service.

If your wetsuit is damaged, a lot of retailers will still let you trade in your suit, offering you a store discount of around 10-20% and will then either pass your wetsuit onto an organisation or to an upcycling company.

Repair or Alter your Suit

There are various repair kits available on sites such as Amazon to help you patch up your suit – one of the most popular is the C-Skin Wetsuit Repair Kit.

There are various specialists across the UK that can alter your wetsuit for you if it has suffered a more major tear.

Cornwall Wetsuit and Drysuit Repairs and Bodyline Wetsuits & Repairs are two retailers that can help in Cornwall.

So, if your wetsuit suffers a tear, major rip, or simply just doesn’t fit anymore, these are some of the easiest ways to repair your wetsuit, rather than splashing out on a completely new one.
